The Florida Fund for Minority Teachers, Inc. is proud to announce the FFMT Teacher of the Year Award. This award has been given for the past two years to outstanding educators that have positively impacted the field of education. This prestigious honor is awarded annually during our Recruitment and Retention Conference. The 2010 Teacher of the Year will be recognized during the awards gala at the Orlando World Center Marriott, Orlando, FL on March 6, 2010. Our previous awardees were Myriam Bernal (2008) from Key Largo School, Monroe County and John Garman (2009) from Matthew Gilbert Middle School, Duval County.

The nominees are identified by school administrators, colleagues, and other education professionals.  To be eligible for nomination, the nominee must have been a scholarship recipient and successfully completed the obligations of the Minority Teacher Education Scholarship, have taught at least three years in a Florida public school, received outstanding performance evaluations, demonstrated a commitment to the teaching profession by engaging in leadership activities in their school and/or community, and shows a genuine concern for children, their education and their well-being.
